The Land-Grant Brewing Company's Sun-Grant Series is inspired by the Sun-Grant Association, a group of Land-Grant Universities that research and develop sustainable and environmentally friendly bio-based energy alternatives.
We do this a few different ways, and we’re always looking for more.

It can be a daunting task to prioritize one cause over another, to figure out how much to give, and to figure out what resources you have to give in the first place. Land-Grant’s commitment to being open and welcoming in our community has yielded nothing short of deep appreciation for our beloved home city and the people that live in it. You have helped us be a force for good in our neighborhood, in our city and our world.
Because of all of this, Land-Grant Brewing Company has become a philanthropic leader in our community, re-imagining the ways that a small business can share resources with our neighbors. We’ve partnered with local businesses to share our giving models and to fundraise as a community for causes close to our hearts.
In 2018, we utilized Land-Grant’s Charitable Giving Budget to reach a larger footprint and have more of a direct impact, finding nonprofit partners that aligned with our values while still maintaining existing partnerships alongside our Community Happy Hour Model. We implemented a system to track revenue at the beginning of the second quarter, providing solid metrics to support our Community Happy Hour Model.

Some of our best fundraising efforts come through our favorite thing – beer! In 2017, four of our brands were designated to raise money for amazing initiatives. Our One Goal One Rye’d Rye Pale Ale raised $1,933 for Pelotonia, our Kin raised $3,163 for The Dick and Jane Project, Eos sent $5,609 back into our sustainability initiatives, and we donated $2,245 to the Ohio State University Foundation toward the Neutron Man Fund from sales of Neutron Double IPA, named after Columbus’ beloved Neutron Man.
Sustainability isn’t just all about water quality tests and closed loop economies (these are still very important!), it’s also about making sure that we’re doing as much as we can to support a healthy community by supporting those who work every day to make it great. We’re proud to work with the Gladden Community House, Franklinton Farms, Stratford Ecological Center, Ohio State University’s Waterman Farm, St. Stephen’s Project Aquastar, the Franklinton Board of Trade and the Homeless Families Foundation (just to name a few!). These organizations ensure access to resources that help keep our families and neighbors healthy and happy, contributing to long term community sustainability.
We are named Land-Grant, after all! We partner with all sorts of organizations – from local after school programs to scholarship funds for The Ohio State University. We’re proud supporters of the OSU Sea-Grant Association, the Neutron Man Memorial Fund, and that OSU Astronomy Department, as well as local educational initiatives for underserved communities in Linden, the Hilltop and Franklinton. We believe that access to education is fundamental for the long-term sustainability of a community. As proud Land-Grant University Grads (and ok – maybe some other schools too), we work hard to make sure that others are afforded the opportunities that were given to us.
The first line of Land-Grant’s Mission Statement is “To build community”. We all love beer, and we love sharing it with you in our taproom and around the city! You are all the best part of this crazy business, and we’ve decided to make it a priority to give back to the people who raise a beer to us every day.
So cheers to you!
