We added two major pieces to the brewing facility in the first week of September, two 80 BBL Sprinkman Fermentors, and an 80 BBL Sprinkman Brite tank. The riggers used some amazing skill and ingenuity to maneuver them into place.
Last night we participated in COSI After Dark, our neighbor’s monthly adults-only museum hangout. This months theme was Brewing and Distillation, and the participants each trotted out a demo on some aspect of the brewing or distilling process. Since the ‘I’ in COSI stands for Industry, we decided to tackle to the process of canning beer. We put together the video above to illustrate how the Stiff-Arm IPA gets in that shiny red can.
Saturday in the taproom we hosted a tasting party to determine the beer that will move forward as our Crew SC supporter beer. We brewed up four test batches (two black, and two gold) and asked the supporter community to cast their vote. Participants picked their favorite beer, offered up feedback, and even threw in a name suggestion or two. In the end, the American Wheat (CB02) was crowned champion and will go back to the brew lab for further recipe tweaking. Look for the beer later on this summer.
As part of a larger project, we shot a time-lapse of our happenin’ little corner of East Franklinton. It just so happened a four-alarm fire caught flame and dominated the Columbus Skyline that day. No one was hurt in the blaze, which took place at a pallet factory south of the city.
Last Friday we got together with Four String and Sideswipe, became a three headed monster, and brewed Ghidorah, a peach saison for Columbus Craft Beer Week. We’ll be tapping the beer here on Saturday May 2nd, it won’t last long!
A few weeks back we shared photographs of our building taken by our friend, and architectural photographer, Matthew Carbone. He recently sent along another set of photos, this selection documenting the early days of our project here in Franklinton. These photos were taken shortly after the demo stage had begun. The photos sit in such stark contrast of the building’s current incarnation, it’s amazing to think it’s come so far since March.
Last night, Columbus cocktail wizards, Four Thieves Thirst Parlour, hosted their second pop-up speakeasy event at Land-Grant. The night featured traditional holiday cocktails and h’oeuvres d’oeuvres, a guided bourbon food pairing, and a special cocktail made with our 1862 Ale, the Morrill Mimosa. Here are a sampling of photos from a warm and fun evening at the taproom.
Close friend to the brewery, and über-talented architectural photographer, Matthew Carbone, paid us a visit during our Grand Opening weekend to capture the brewery and taproom as it opened it’s doors for the first time. He has been gracious enough to let us share his work here. All photos in this post are © Matthew Carbone.
With construction, permitting, and occupancy all wrapped up, we finally got a chance to do what we set out to do 2.5 years ago…brew beer!
Last week Jamie brewed our first official batch of Land-Grant beer on our Sprinkman brew house, and the 20 BBL batch of Brown Ale is fermenting away as we speak. Here are a few photos from our first brew day, and stay tuned for info on when you can taste some of the brew for yourself.
