A Spooky October in the “Fiergarten”

We’re very excited to announce some spooky Halloween-centric events in the Beer Garden throughout October. The Fiergarden Film Series launches tomorrow (Wednesday 10/10) kicking off three straight Wednesdays with scary movies under the stars. Pack a blanket, grab a beer, and brace yourself for all the spooks. All movies start at sundown at 7pm, and we’ve got a full line up of creepy classics:


These freaky films all lead up to the howlin-est Halloween party in town: The Land-Grant and BARK Party in the Fiergarten!

October 27th not only marks the eve of All Hallows Eve, but also the date in which Pups on the Patio legislation becomes OFFICIAL law! YAY! We advocated hard for our best dog friends, so we are ready to celebrate with a big ol’ party. From 3-7pm, Our human friends at BARK will be helping us host an all-out costume party. Bring your four-legged fur-ball and don’t hold back with the ensembles… We’ll be handing out prizes all afternoon for the best costumes in various categories!

The party certainly doesn’t stop after the dogs hit the hay. As the lights go down in the Fiergarten, from 7-10pm, the music will turn up with DJ Sean Gleeson & DJ Al Sigman and the costume competitions will carry on. Let’s get sPoOoOoOkY!!! Ray Ray’s Hog Pit will be serving up some eerie eats, including Spiced Smoked Short Rib with Ghost Chili BBQ Sauce. đź‘» OooOoOOoooooo đź‘» The Party is FREE and open to the public!

New Brew: Kin

This is Nik’s beer—a Kölsch-style Golden Ale, brewed with Agave Nectar, Tropical Hops and Nik in mind. Beer builds community, and we were honored to have Nik at the center of ours. He was a soft-spoken soul who could summon a roar, a roots rock king with tropical panache, and a man who taught us all how lucky we are to have one another. Proceeds from this beer benefit the Dick & Jane Project.

Introducing the Beer Garden Music Series

The weather is shining and the stage is set–let us play you some tunes. Now that the Beer Garden is up and running, and the stage is complete, we’re pretty stoked the Land-Grant Beer Garden Music Series! The series will feature live music in our brand new Beer Garden on select Thursday and Sundays through the rest of the summer and into the fall. Shows are 100% free, and, weather dependent (we’ll move music indoors when necessary and possible). You can check out the full lineup over on the Music Series Page as well as our Facebook. Land-Grant Brewing Company Expands Production and Distribution with Columbus Distributing Partnership

Today, we are proud to announce a new partnership with Columbus Distributing Co. for wholesale distribution. The partnership is part of our strategic growth plan to increase beer production and expand distribution throughout Central Ohio, and will allow more customers to enjoy our seasonal and limited-edition releases.

“We’ve had success self-distributing since we opened and have formed great relationships over the years. As we look toward the future, we need a partner with distribution expertise, a shared brewing vision and dedication to Central Ohio to continue our rapid growth,” says Adam Benner, Land-Grant president and co-owner. “Our partnership with Columbus Distributing allows us to expand production and offer a larger, wider selection of beers at more locations across our community, and we’re excited to do it alongside a company with the same commitment to Columbus as us.”

Starting July 29 2018, Columbus Distributing will handle Land-Grant’s Franklin County wholesale distribution. The partnership will allow Land-Grant to expand operations at their current Franklinton facility, as well as dedicate space to a quality assurance lab. The partnership will also expand Columbus Distributing’s craft beer offerings.

Jeni’s Strawberry Jam!

A huge and hardy THANK YOU is in order to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Hirsch Fruit Farms, Besa, and all of the amazing people who came together to make the Strawberry Jam an incredible success.

Jeni and her inspiring team of doers, makers, and scoopers have been celebrating Ohio’s strawberry harvest—specifically that of Hirsch Fruit Farm in Chillicothe—each June with their Strawberry Buttermilk Ice Cream. At Land-Grant, we couldn’t resist brewing up a sublime complement to that annual rite of summer. New Brew: CubeRRT

Meet CubeRRT, the first satellite designed, engineered, and built at Ohio State’s ElectroScience Laboratory. Developed in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Goddard Space Flight Center, CubeRRT’s work in orbit will demonstrate technology that will support future missions for agriculture and climate science. To celebrate its launch from Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, we just brewed up this special Space-Grant Series beer. CubeRRT, the beer, is a super limited, launch-ready Extra Pale featuring Falconer’s Flight, Cashmere, and Nelson Sauvin hops. 10,9,8,7…

2017 Sustainability and Community Report

Brewing beer requires large amounts of energy, agricultural ingredients, packaging material, water, and labor all to be fermented and poured in a single glass. Since the beginning, we’ve wanted to be a brewery that brews with championship integrity. When we opened, our skeleton crew wasn’t able to pursue sustainability while also brewing, kegging, canning, delivering, bartending, and getting ourselves off the ground. Three years later and thirty-plus employees larger, we’ve been able to pursue sustainable brewing at last.

In 2017 we launched Sun-Grant, our formal Sustainability Program that aims to organize, measure, manage, and pursue our various environmental and communal initiatives. These initiatives are housed in the four pillars of the Sun-Grant Program:

  1. MITIGATION OF LIFE CYCLE IMPACT
  2. REDUCTION OF CARBON FOOTPRINT
  3. WATER STEWARDSHIP
  4. DEEP COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

These pillars, and the initiatives within them, reflect the common themes that we seek to address in our sustainability program: reduction of greenhouse gases, closing loops, minimizing waste, decreasing our water use intensity, diverting brewing byproduct from our wastewater, lowering the impact of our supply chain, and partnering with different farmers, environmental organizations, and community groups throughout Columbus and Ohio to make a healthier, better, cleaner world.

Our Sun-Grant program’s first year was focused on taking a holistic approach, with the aim of making progress and creating programs within each of the four pillars. Because of this, we were able to begin to mitigate every bit of our environmental impact, but as a Jack-of-All-Trades, Master-of-None.

We also launched our first Sun-Grant beer: Ra, a Fossil-Free Honey Blonde Ale, made with Ohio-grown Cascade hops, Ohio amber honey, and Rahr Malt’s fossil-free malts. Ra is the first in our Sun-Grant Series, and sales from each pour and six-pack went into our Sun-Grant Fund (more on that later).

Part of our mission here at Land-Grant is to make sure that we are ensuring Long Term Community Sustainability here in our neighborhood and beyond. You help us do this every day by patronizing our taproom and buying delicious beer out at your favorite shops and bars. This year, Land-Grant donated over 1% of our gross revenue to local area initiatives under the tiers of Education, Sustainability and Community Building, continuing our commitment to responsibly steward our resources for the greater good. We were able to donate a little under $50,000 in 2017.

Within this report you’ll see some examples of what programs we created, what worked, what didn’t work, and what we’re going to do about it. As always, we couldn’t do this without the continued support of our patrons, customers, and the Columbus community. Raise a glass to yourselves and read on to learn more.

New Brew: The Corsica

The Corsica is a juicy Northeast IPA brewed in collaboration with our good friends (and Columbus craft beer stalwarts), The Daily Growler. This citrusy Northeast-style Double IPA is brewed with candied citron and rides high on hazy, frothy swells of peach, orange, and tangerine aroma. Pop on your flops, cook up some brunch, set your course, and raise the sails.
