Video : New Year’s Time-lapse

On New Year’s Eve 2014, we set up a stage on the brewery production floor, threw a big party and had our friends Nick D’ and the Believers and Bella Ruse come play. Bella Ruse upped the ante for the evening performing a midnight set of all Prince songs, with the costume and wigs to match. The event required quite a bit of set-up, not to mention clean-up, so naturally we gave it the time-lapse treatment.

The soundtrack to the video is “French Delight” by Nick D’ and the Believers. Buy It Here!

Photos: Matthew Carbone’s “Before” Photos

A few weeks back we shared photographs of our building taken by our friend, and architectural photographer, Matthew Carbone. He recently sent along another set of photos, this selection documenting the early days of our project here in Franklinton. These photos were taken shortly after the demo stage had begun. The photos sit in such stark contrast of the building’s current incarnation, it’s amazing to think it’s come so far since March.

Last night, Columbus cocktail wizards, Four Thieves Thirst Parlour, hosted their second pop-up speakeasy event at Land-Grant. The night featured traditional holiday cocktails and h’oeuvres d’oeuvres, a guided bourbon food pairing, and a special cocktail made with our 1862 Ale, the Morrill Mimosa. Here are a sampling of photos from a warm and fun evening at the taproom.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 7 2014, our barn-wood facade was vandalized by some “artists.” It’s a tough thing to see something you worked your ass off on be disrespected in such a blatant and targeted fashion. None-the-less, for every lazy vandal in town there’s countless more folks working to benefit both our awesome neighborhood of Franklinton and Columbus as a whole, and we wanted to take this careless act and use it to shine a light on some of the folks working towards a positive end. Thus we’re taking pre-orders on this t-shirt here, and we’ll donate 100% of the proceeds to our incredible neighbors, the Gladden Community House and The Harmony Project.

We’ll be taking pre-orders for these up until Christmas and will ship them out early in the New Year. Help us take something ugly and turn it into something great.

Close friend to the brewery, and über-talented architectural photographer, Matthew Carbone, paid us a visit during our Grand Opening weekend to capture the brewery and taproom as it opened it’s doors for the first time. He has been gracious enough to let us share his work here. All photos in this post are © Matthew Carbone.

Save the Date: Land-Grant Opens October 18th!

It has been a long haul since completing our successful Kickstarter campaign all the way back in March of 2012, and we’re beyond excited to finally announce that the doors to Land-Grant Brewing Company will officially open to the public on Saturday, October 18th!

A lot of blood, sweat, and beers went into building the brewery and brewing our first batches, and we can’t wait to open the doors, let the public in, and share our beer with you. There are still details to come for the Opening, but you can expect: Land-Grant Beer on draft, some delicious guest taps, Brewery tours, a tasty food truck, and a whole lot of toasting.

You can follow along at the event’s official Facebook page as we fill in some of the details of the day. See you in a few weeks!

Our First Brew!

With construction, permitting, and occupancy all wrapped up, we finally got a chance to do what we set out to do 2.5 years ago…brew beer!

Last week Jamie brewed our first official batch of Land-Grant beer on our Sprinkman brew house, and the 20 BBL batch of Brown Ale is fermenting away as we speak. Here are a few photos from our first brew day, and stay tuned for info on when you can taste some of the brew for yourself.

Behold, the Transformative Power of Barn Wood

If you’ve been following along, you may remember that we took a little trip in the Spring to help take down an and salvage an old barn near Marion. That wood has sat in storage until yesterday, when it went up on the front facade of the Land-Grant taproom. We’re biased, but we think the transformation is pretty remarkable.

Today, we marked another big milestone at Land-Grant HQ: the issuing of our State Brewer’s A1C Permit. Pairing that with our TTB issued Federal Brewer’s Permit, we’re one step (official building occupancy) away from full-on operation. Lots of hard work by a lot of dedicated folks has things humming along both in the production area and in the tap-room, and construction should come to a close soon.

Be sure to follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for all the latest updates, as we hope to announce information on opening dates and event soon!
