Crew SC Supporter Beer Taste-Off – Round 2!

LG_Crew2

A few weeks ago, we called on Crew SC Supporters to join us at the taproom and help us taste-test 4 different test batches of beer (two gold and two black), and the American Wheat won big. We also asked for input on each style of beer, and we’ve taken those recommendations seriously. Join us again on Saturday, August 22nd (leading up to the home Sporting KC match) and grab a flight of 4 variations on the American Wheat. Cast your vote, and the winner heads straight for the production, and will be debuted at Mapfre Stadium when the Crew take on Portland, September 26th.

We’ve got a ton of tickets to give away, and if you missed out on the limited edition Crew/Land-Grant glasses (pictured below), this is your chance to get your hands on one.

Tasting sets include a flight of all four brews, a commemorative Crew/Land-Grant glass, a full pour of the non-Crew Land-Grant beer of your choice, and the chance to win tickets to the Crew/Kansas City match. The tastings start at 2pm, and at 6pm, we’ll open the taps for full pour of the supporter beers (we want to make sure everyone has a chance to taste all four). If you’re not headed to the stadium that day, we’ll have the match on with audio at 7:30pm.

Video: Canning Process

Last night we participated in COSI After Dark, our neighbor’s monthly adults-only museum hangout. This months theme was Brewing and Distillation, and the participants each trotted out a demo on some aspect of the brewing or distilling process. Since the ‘I’ in COSI stands for Industry, we decided to tackle to the process of canning beer. We put together the video above to illustrate how the Stiff-Arm IPA gets in that shiny red can.

Crew Beer Taste-Off: Black vs. Gold

Party_Graphic2

Saturday in the taproom we hosted a tasting party to determine the beer that will move forward as our Crew SC supporter beer. We brewed up four test batches (two black, and two gold) and asked the supporter community to cast their vote. Participants picked their favorite beer, offered up feedback, and even threw in a name suggestion or two. In the end, the American Wheat (CB02) was crowned champion and will go back to the brew lab for further recipe tweaking. Look for the beer later on this summer.

Can Release: 1862 and Stiff-Arm

Can_aunch_Graphic

We’ve been eagerly anticipating this day since we launched our Kickstarter campaign back in February of 2012. Cans are here and being filled. We’ll offer them to the public for the very first time this upcoming Saturday, May 30th.

We’re launching the can program with two beers: 1862 Ale and Stiff-Arm IPA. 1862 (our American Kölsch) is a lighter crisp beer with a touch of hop aroma; the ideal beer for BBQs, golf courses, camping trips, and boat rides—in other words, the perfect beer for summer. Stiff-Arm brings a fruity hop punch reminiscent of the west-coast, and now you can take that hoppy goodness wherever you please.

Join us Saturday from Noon ’til Midnight, have a pint or two and grab a six-pack to-go*! Following the launch on Saturday, you’ll start to see the cans out in the wild over the next few weeks.

*Limit one case per style per customer.

Video: Time-Lapse of the Great Fire of 2015

As part of a larger project, we shot a time-lapse of our happenin’ little corner of East Franklinton. It just so happened a four-alarm fire caught flame and dominated the Columbus Skyline that day. No one was hurt in the blaze, which took place at a pallet factory south of the city.

Glory to Columbus. Land-Grant is a Proud Partner of Columbus Crew SC!

LG_Crew_launch_Poster_v1

We here at Land-Grant are extremely excited to share that we’ve struck a deal with Columbus Crew SC to become an official partner of the club. Not only will we continue to show the matches in the taproom and pour our beer at Mapfre Stadium; but we will be working with the club to brew a signature beer for Crew SC Supporters.

“At Land-Grant, we take great pride in the community we’re working to grow, our commitment to design and—above all—the quality of our product,” says Land-Grant President, Adam Benner. “Crew SC obviously shares those values. It’s reflected in their branding efforts, play on the field, and devotion to Columbus. They are exactly what we were looking for in our search for a partner.”

Many details are yet to be revealed, including the beer style, name and branding, but we can say that it will be offered at both Mapfre Stadium, which has been serving Land-Grant’s beers during the 2015 season, as well as throughout the Columbus Market. We’ll be filling in those details in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for the most up-to-date developments. #bemassive
