The Brewhouse Is Here!

brewhouse

It was a HUGE day on Tuesday here at Land-Grant HQ, as our Sprinkman brewhouse and ABT cellar were delivered and shimmied into their places. There were some tight squeezes to get everything where it needed to be, but after two long days everything is in its right place. In a few weeks —if all goes well— we should have all the utilities hooked up to the system, and we can get to brewing.

I’ve posted some choice photos here, and you can view a full gallery of the day over on our facebook page.

Video : Construction 001

Our latest documentary time-lapse video gives you glimpse into all the hard work that goes into a brewery floor. Digging trenches for drains, laying drainage pipes, and finally pouring a brand new concrete slab over the whole thing. The new floors are something we’ve been looking forward to since we signed the lease, and they truly transform the space.

This certainly won’t be our last construction video, so stay tuned for more in the coming weeks. Cheers!

152nd Anniversary of the Land-Grant Act

152nd Anniversary of the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862

With the World Cup, Red White and Boom, and Independence Day, you probably don’t need another reason to celebrate this week. The intrepid revelers, however, can raise a glass to the 152nd Anniversary of the Morrill Land-Grant Act, signed into law by President Lincoln on this day in 1862! Cheers!

Read-up on the Land-Grant Act here.

The Brewhouse is Ready and Waiting!

family_photo

Earlier this week we got a nice note from W.M. Sprinkman letting us know that our 20bbl brewhouse was complete, and ready to roll. A lot of hardworking Milwaukee folks leant their hands in building the system, and they were nice enough to pose for the “family photo” you see above. We can’t wait to see it sitting atop our gorgeous new floors.

Video : USA vs. Ghana

USA defeats Ghana at Land-Grant Brewing Company

On Monday evening we hosted a small group of people at the brewery to show them around and take in the USA’s first match of the 2014 World Cup. The game was projected on a massive screen we built in the Columbus Idea Foundry’s parking lot, and luckily the #USMNT ensured all had a great time by delivering a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ghana. Here’s a time-lapse of the evening:

Video : Demolition

Over the past few weeks, the Land-Grant team, as well as a crew of demo experts have been working to clear out our old elevator factory and get it cleaned out, fixed up, and prepped for the construction process. We couldn’t let such hard work go unseen. So, naturally, we’ve documented it in the time-lapse video presented here. Enjoy.

We’re In The Paper!

Columbus Dispatch Franklinton Article

This morning, the Columbus Dispatch ran an excellent front-page article on the bright future of our neighborhood, Franklinton. The piece featured quotes from —and a glorious photo of— our own Adam Benner. Check out the photo in full color, and read the article on the Dispatch‘s site.

Video : Recycling a Barn

Yesterday was Earth Day; to celebrate, the team took a trip to rural Ohio to reclaim siding from a barn that had been tagged for demolition. The barn was raised way back in 1884 (just 22 years after the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862), but was recently struck by lightning and had to come down. The wood will be reused on the exterior of the brewery, and we were also able to salvage some other awesome pieces that we’ll share with you a little later. Check out the short time-lapse video above to relive our day.

The new East Franklinton facility offers tons of industrial character and experience. As I did with the previous building, I wanted to capture the “before” state of the building, as things are going to look drastically different once we’ve completed the renovation and build-out. Here are some photographs I took of the brewing and the exterior.

“Before” Photos

Land-Grant Exterior

Now that we have the keys to the castle, so to speak, I was able to get in and take some “before” photos of the cavernous space. As you can see, we’ve got a lot to work with. The facility is pretty bare-bones right now, so we’ve definitely got our work cut out for us, but we wanted to give you a glimpse inside before we fill it with all kinds of fun stuff.

Land-Grant Interior Before

This is from the front of the building, where the tap room will be, looking toward the production floor in the back.

Land-Grant Interior Before 2

Here’s the reverse angle, looking toward the front from the very back. Note the awesome wooden trusswork; rafters just waiting for banners.

As we move forward through design and construction, we’ll be sure to post more photos of the process.

Now that you’ve seen the “Before,” we can’t wait ’til we can show you the “After” in person.
