Land-Grant Brewing Company is a production craft brewery in the historic Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. Land-Grant was born from a passion for painstakingly-crafted beer, powerful design, and a midwestern sports devotion. Alumni of Ohio State, Co-Founders Adam Benner and Walt Keys, always dreamed of returning to Columbus to build something of their own. Before coming home to Ohio, the seed of what would initially become our 12,000 BBL capacity brewing facility was planted in a tiny carriage-house apartment on the westside of Chicago. Outside of their nine-to-five jobs, Adam fiddled with recipes while Walt designed labels for the brews. To test the viability of what was then called Oval Brewing, the two launched and successfully completed a Kickstarter Campaign in 2012. Shortly afterwards, Quintin Jessee, a longtime home-brewer himself, jumped on board. A long 899 days later, on September 16, 2014, Land-Grant brewed it’s first batch (Son of a Mudder Brown Ale), and one month later, opened the doors to its Franklinton taproom and brewing facility on October 18, 2014.
What started as a two-person asperation in 2012, has quickly grown into a 40+ person operation with two locations and a third-party distributor; we added a taproom inside the The John Glenn Columbus International Airport in 2016, and partnered with Columbus Distributing Company in 2018! With four brewers and room for 800 BBLs of continuous fermentation, our taproom boasts 24 taps and a fully-stocked carry out fridge at all times. In 2018, we increased our taproom capacity by adding a XX square-foot beer garden with a fully functioning rainbow beer truck and outdoor stage. You can also find our six-packs in grocery stores in and around Central Ohio, reaching over to Athens, up to Mansfield, and down to Cincinnati.
